NASA JPL Psyche

Journey to a metal world

Visualising the journey to a metal world.

Coinciding with the launch of the Psyche mission, Accept & Proceed created a series of educational data visualisation posters for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The double-sided prints were designed for educational establishments and science labs across the USA. The posters aimed to educate students on 16 Psyche, the largest M-type metal asteroid in the Milky Way, initially discovered by the Italian Astronomer Annibale de Gasparis on March 17 1852. The Psyche spacecraft is due to make contact with the asteroid in August 2029.

The halftone graphic of the craft expresses a language of symbols representing the multiple multidisciplinary teams who have all collaborated on the mission. The graphic comprises 1,621 symbols – one for each person who contributed to the research, development and execution of the journey to the metal world. Supporting the image, journey graphs track the trajectory and orbits of the Psyche craft.

Posters are free to download here.
